Sometimes using pins when cutting out patterns can be fiddly.
Pattern weights are designed to secure your pattern with out using pins.
They are also much easier to move around.
If you're looking for an easy alternative to pins then this tutorial is for you!
You will need:
Rice (or other suitable filling)
1. First of all choose your fabric. You will need approximately 20cms x 10cms piece for each pattern weight, although you can choose whether you want to make your pattern weights bigger or smaller.
2. Fold the rectangle in half right sides together and sew down opposite sides.
3. Fold the open edge pulling the 2 sewn seams together in the centre and sew in a little from each side. Turn inside out through the remaining gap so right side is now facing out.
4. Fill with rice (or similar) as full as possible.
leaving a little room to slip stitch the gap closed.
You have completed your pattern weight!
If they're good enough for the Great British Sewing Bee, they're good enough for us :)
